Traveling Disney Parks with Little Ones

The Magic can turn into a Meltdown if you aren’t prepared.

Blisters, tired legs, and cranky parents kids are a surefire combination for a meltdown in the making.

You will be investing a lot into your Disney vacation - money, time, energy - being prepared means you balance that investment with understanding and practical choices, like taking an unplanned break or sleeping in the next morning.

Having a schedule is key on a Disney vacation, but so is the mindset that you’ll stop and follow the magic - you just never know when or where those “wow” moments will happen!

Here are tips to make sure your trip is as magical as can be for your younger ones:

Rent a Stroller

Even if your kids are past the stroller age, you should have a plan in place for the possibility of needing a stroller. When your little ones eventually hit the snooze button, you can stroll around and enjoy a leisurely lunch while the kids stroller-nap.

If you aren’t bringing your own stroller, there are stroller rental companies to help you when you arrive in Orlando. Should you find an impromptu need for a stroller while you are already there...Disney has strollers for rent and for sale at the parks, resorts, and in Disney Springs.

My family first went to Walt Disney World when my daughter was 4 almost 5...she was a couple of years out of a stroller, but still, by midweek, her little legs would need a break, I was so glad that we took a cheap umbrella stroller. It was also great for quick catnaps. Remember you may walk upwards of 10-15 miles per day.

QUICK TIP: stroller clips are great to have. They are perfect for holding water bottles, popcorn buckets, Minnie ears, or balloons. You can also use this version to attach to your park bag.

Visit the Baby Care Center

Need sunscreen, diapers or other family essentials? Visit a Baby Care Center! It’s the perfect stop for those with infants, toddlers and preschoolers in need of a place to rest, relax, or snack in one of the theme parks—each one with a private room for nursing mothers and a waiting room for the rest of the family.

The Baby Centers are also great for "let's take a break away from so many people" spots. If you need to get out of the sun or rain, they are a good go-to location.Baby Care Center Video

QUICK TIP: You don't have to be a baby or have a baby to use this center! They aren't for the general public per se but they will welcome your child (or senior adult) who needs a quick pit stop with a sink, microwave, or supplies.

Use the Rider Switch

With Rider Switch, one adult can wait with the non-rider (or riders) while the rest of the party enjoys the attraction. When the other adult returns, they can supervise the non-riding Guests, and the waiting adult can board the attraction without having to wait in the regular line again!

Keep it Fun

Let's face it waiting in line is not fun at any age, try to make the best of it. You can download games on a tablet or phone, like Heads Up, to keep busy, but one of my favorites is to look for Hidden Mickeys while in the queues. Here is a fun card game that can be packed easily in a park bag.

Fuel Up with Mickey Check

Here's a Disney secret that should be shared: Disney Parks have healthy, balanced meals for kids—and grown-ups too! Look for the "Mickey Check" on the menus and you will find a meal with carrots and apples or grapes with a nice protein to keep them going!
